Jane’s Walk – Toronto. In honour of Jane Jacobs – 1 Crown Park Road Garden and Deck

Although Art Wood (an owner) and Todd Irvine (the arborist) forgot to mention Spaces By Rohan Inc. on the Jane’s Walk Tour of 1 Crown Park Avenue in the Beach the other weekend, Alan Hall (the other owner who was out of town that weekend) was kind enough to send me the link from the community paper. I hired Todd Irvine as he is gifted tree lover and was very helpful as I created this respectful response to the house, the trees and the ravine. Even though my name wasn’t mentioned, it is still a great privilege for the work to be associated with the Jane’s Walk. A great privilege!

Jane was a hero of mine. I first read her books when I was an architecture student. Then as a stay at home dad I read her books again. Jane has recognized timeless design truths regarding our behaviour as citizens in a city, neighbour, street or small enclave. I still read excerpts of her work to day. But most importantly I try to simultaneously apply those principles in a way that benefits the client and the whole. I wish I could say it has been easy. I can say it has and is worthwhile.
